“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:2)

Sample Prayer for Humility

Lord, please grant humility to my children. Give them humble hearts that desire for Your glory and not their own. Help them to see the danger of pride and wanting everything to be about them.

Please allow things to happen in their lives that will help foster more humility in their hearts, even if those things are painful for a time. Help me to parent my children in a way that models a humble heart. Amen.

Definition: characterized by a noble or kindly spirit; liberal in giving

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)

Sample Prayer for Generosity

Lord, I pray that my children would have generous spirits. Please give them joy in sharing their time, talents, and treasures with each other and those around them. May they be willing to sacrifice things they want for the joy of others, even in playing board games or helping a sibling with their chores.

I pray that their lives would be characterized by generosity. Please help me recognize this trait when I see it in their actions. Amen.

Love for God

Definition: committed to knowing and worshipping God above anyone or anything

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22: 37-39)

Heavenly Father, I ask that You would give my children a heartfelt and genuine love for You. Please help my kids to desire to know You, to read the Bible, and to follow Your commandments.

I pray that You would be their greatest treasure over anything else in this world. May each child long to know You more and more each day. I pray that the pleasures of this world would pale in comparison to knowing You, God. Draw their hearts closer to You each day. Amen.

“A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity.” (Proverbs 17:17)

“A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24)

I pray for patience if my children must wait a while for a good friend to come along. Help them to trust in Your perfect timing. Please bless them with wonderful companions who will be like family! Amen.

Battling Anxiety

Definition: fear or nervousness about what might happen; strong desire sometimes mixed with doubt, fear, or uneasiness

Sample Prayer for Battling Anxiety

Lord Jesus, thank You that You care about all of our needs. You care about my children’s needs too. I pray specifically for my daughter and all of the worries she’s carrying. Please help her to name her worries and to ask for help to battle those difficult thoughts.

I pray that Your peace would guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Remind her of Your never-stopping, never giving up, unbreaking, always and forever love for her. When her anxiety overwhelms her, I pray that she would run to You as her refuge. Help me to trust that You know her needs more than I do and that she is safe in Your hands. Amen.

Love for Others

Definition: strong or constant affection and devotion for someone

“And the second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39)

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vein conceit, but in humility, consider others better than yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” (John 13:35)

Sample Prayer for Love for Others

Lord thank You for how You challenge us to love others even more than ourselves. You are the greatest example of doing that well. Please help my son to put others before himself and to see their needs as more important than his own.

I pray that he would remember that every person is created in Your image and deserving of love and kindness. May he desire to serve and love others, and I pray in doing that he would experience so much joy. Help me to model selfless love to him in my actions, attitude, and words. Amen.

Definition: mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, or withstand danger, fear or difficulty

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be discouraged, do not be dismayed. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.” (Psalm 31:24)

Sample Prayer for Courage

Lord, thank You that my children can have courage if they rely on Your strength. Please give them courage of heart to stand up for truth, even if no one is supporting them. I pray that in situations that require courage, they will pray and ask You to provide.

Help them realize that courage comes from You and the Holy Spirit, not from the world. I pray that each of my children will feel Your strength, and I pray for opportunities in life where courage is needed. Let their confidence be found in You. Amen.

Definition: deliverance from the power and effects of sin

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing, it is a gift of God, not by works so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Sample Prayer for Salvation

Lord Jesus, the most important thing that could ever happen in my children’s lives is for them to receive Your free gift of salvation. I pray that You would call them out of darkness into your marvelous light. Open their eyes to the wonder of the gospel!

Give them understanding so that the message of the cross is the power of God unto salvation in their lives! I pray that in Your perfect timing You would bring them to a saving relationship with You. Amen.

Definition: submissive to the will of another; compliance with the demands or requests of one in authority

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” (James 1:22)

“Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life, but whoever ignores correction leads others astray.” (Proverbs 10:17)

Sample Prayer for Obedience

Lord Jesus, I pray that my kids will understand the importance of obedience. Give them a desire to listen to Your voice and a willingness to obey. Help us to uplift Your Word in our home daily so our children continue to understand the importance of listening Your Word and doing what it says.

I pray that You would help our children be quick to obey in the small things as well as in the big things. Grant them joy and blessing when they choose to obey and help them to see that disobedience yields unpleasant consequences. Amen.

Protection and Safety

Definition: freedom from harm or danger; the state of being safe; the state of being protected; supervision or support of one that is smaller or weaker

“The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:6)

Sample Prayer for Protection and Safety

Lord Jesus, thank You that You oversee everything. Please help my daughters to feel safe and protected as they go throughout their days. Whether they’re in school, driving, at activities, or even with friends, may they feel safe because they know You’re in control.

I pray for protection specifically when they are driving. Help them to be alert and responsible, and I pray for other drivers to be responsible too. If they ever aren’t feeling safe, I pray they would leave the situation if possible and turn to You for help and guidance. Remind them that You are their refuge in times of trouble. Amen.

Definition: of a sympathetic or helpful nature; gentle; characterized by sympathy or forbearance

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” (Matthew 7:12)

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (I Thessalonians 5:11)

Sample Prayer for Kindness

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to be kind to one another. Please help my children to choose kindness everyday in their interactions. For my little ones, help them to find joy in sharing their toys. For my teens, please help them to see their peers as You do and to not have a critical spirit or judgmental heart.

Please let my children’s words be full of grace and spoken in love. May they be grace givers in their words and see opportunities to encourage and lift others up, not tear down. Help them to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Use them as a force for good each day. Amen.
